My career in hospitality started in July 2014 I had just completed my Leaving Cert, and was eager to get in to the workforce. I applied for a role as Food & Beverage Assistant at the Clayton Hotel Leopardstown and was delighted when I got the role. At first, I worked mostly in the Bar / Lounge area and sometimes helped out at Breakfast. I soon realised how I enjoyed the variety in my role and that no two days are ever the same.
Over the next year and a half, I worked hard, asked questions and gained a lot of experience in the Food & Beverage department. I put what I learned into practise especially in customer service.
At the end of February 2016, I was promoted to Food & Beverage Team Leader, and was able to work across all of the Food & Beverage outlets. I really enjoyed the extra responsibility plus the interaction with my colleagues.
In September 2016, I was given the opportunity to take a place on Internal Trainee Management Programme in Clayton Hotel Leopardstown. I was thrilled to be a part of this new training initiative, which is made up of 12 week rotations in the various departments in the Hotel. I’ve gained knowledge in Front Office, Reservations and Accounts; and I will learn Revenue and Accommodation by the time the programme finishes in September 2017.
With Dalata’s commitment to their employee’s development, and particularly working in Leopardstown, I’ve been given every opportunity to develop myself. Through a combination of internal programmes coupled with external courses, I feel I’ve gained the knowledge and confidence that’s has helped me become a well-rounded junior manager.
I will complete my twelve months training program in September and I look forward to the next challenge.
